As the
biologist, Virgin Islands National Park 1970-74, I coordinated projects of the
underwater habitat TEKTITE, planned the Parks research and resource
management program, and undertook studies on visitor impacts on coral reefs. I
helped establish a historical society and develop the island's first school
environmental education programs. I also represented the Park on marine park
management and research issues throughout the Caribbean, at a time when the
concept of marine protected areas was new in the region.
